Area receives rain, wheat harvest close to complete

For the week ending July 19, 2015, temperatures averaged two to three degrees above normal across much of the State, with widespread precipitation reported, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Rainfall totals of two inches or more were recorded in portions of central and northeast Nebraska, with lesser amounts elsewhere. The hot, humid conditions continued to boost crop development, but stressed livestock.
According to the Nebraska Rainfall Assessment and Information Network since the first of July the area has received from just over one and one-half inches of precipitation to over three and three-quarters inches of rain.
Receiving the most was just west of Edison with 3.76 inches, while southwest of Arapahoe has received 2.57 inches, seven miles northwest of Arapahoe has received 2.77 inches and almost 10 miles northeast of Arapahoe has received 1.55 inches
Wheat harvest was near completion in southern counties, and was active in the Panhandle.
