AHS ladies take win over Medicine Valley

The Arapahoe Lady Warriors hosted Red Cloud on Wednesday, January 2 to open their New Year.  They then traveled to Curtis to play Medicine Valley on Friday, January 4.  The Lady Warriors finished their week by hosting Loomis on Saturday, January 5.

AHS v Red Cloud

The two teams struggled to score in the first quarter.  Red Cloud had seven points to Arapahoe’s three.  Red Cloud added 10 points in the second quarter.  The Lady Warriors scored seven.  Red Cloud had a 17-10 lead at halftime.  Arapahoe cut into their lead in the third quarter.  The Lady Warriors scored 10 points in the quarter, matching their first half output.  Red Cloud had six points in the third, maintaining a three-point lead going into the fourth.  Arapahoe struggled to score in the fourth.  They had three points.  Red Cloud finished with 20 points in the fourth, cruising to a 43-23 win.

Arapahoe finished the game by shooting 22 percent from the floor, making 10 shots.  They were 2-14 from long range and 1-4 from the charity strike.  The Lady Warriors finished with 27 rebounds, eight coming on the offensive glass.  They had five assists, six steals, and 18 turnovers. 

AHS v Medicine Valley

Both Arapahoe and Medicine Valley struggled to see the basketball go through the hoop in the first quarter.  Each team scored four points.  Arapahoe started to pick up their scoring in the second with seven points.  The Raiders scored two points in the quarter and found themselves trailing 11-6 at halftime.  Arapahoe outscored Medicine Valley 9-0 in the third quarter.  The Lady Warriors closed out the game outscoring the Raiders 10-3 in the fourth.  Arapahoe went on to take a 30-9 win.

Arapahoe was able to win despite their shooting struggles.  They were 27 percent from the floor and 0-11 from the three-point line.  The Lady Warriors were also 4-10 from the free throw line.  Medicine Valley shot six percent for the game, making only two field goals.  Arapahoe had the rebounding advantage, 34-25.  The Lady Warriors pulled down 14 offensive rebounds.  Arapahoe finished with nine assists, 15 steals, and 15 turnovers.

AHS v Loomis

Loomis took control of the game with their 17 points in the first quarter.  Arapahoe scored two points.  Each team scored eight points in the second quarter.  Loomis found themselves with a commanding 25-10 lead at halftime.  The Wolves closed the door to any sort of a comeback in the third quarter.  They came out and dropped 20 points in the quarter while holding Arapahoe to two points for the second quarter of the game.  The Lady Warriors scored 10 points in the fourth.  Loomis closed the game with 13 points, winning 58-22.

The shooting discrepancy was 28 percent.  The Lady Warriors shot 18 percent from the floor and were 1-9 from the three-point line.  Arapahoe’s other area of struggle was ball control.
