Members of the Elwood Board of Education met Monday evening, July 8th for their regular meeting at Elwood Public Schools. Board members in attendance were Bill Brell, Kristy Diefenbaugh, Kelly Gydesen and Jeff Moore. Board members absent were Shelly Jorges and Nick Niemeier. Also in attendance was Superintendent, Daren Hatch.
The board approved the following agenda items:
•Minutes from the June meeting along with General and activity Financial reports,
•Monthly Claims from the General Fund in the amount of $313,295.72; from the Activity Fund in the amount of $7,601.12; from the Nutrition Fund in amount of $2,357.83; from the Depreciation Fund in the amount of $129,716.09.
Superintendent Hatch reported that the roofing project has begun and that the cost for the roof is expected to be high due to a better quality roof. The difference in the roof will be approximately $100,000. Hatch also reported that they are splitting uniform costs with Eustis-Farnam, as invoices are arriving.
The board approved a number of policies including Student Fees Policy, Parental and Guardian Involvement in Education Policy, and Bullying Policy. The board also approved option enrollment resolution.
Also approved and adopted was 2017 Indemnification and Liability Insurance, 2052 Leasing Personal Property.
The board approved an amended 2019-2020 school calendar with the following dates: school will resume on January 2nd, March 13 will be kept as a winter break, last student day will be May 14th and last teacher day will be May 15th. Graduation has been moved to May 9th to accommodate construction.
It was approved to declare eight television stands and three computer carts as surplus property.
The board also approved renewal of NRCSA membership for 2019-2020 at a cost of $850.00.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
The board will hold a budget workshop on August 26th at 7:00 p.m., Building Committee meeting on July 15th at 6:00 p.m. and the next regular meeting is set for August 12th at 7:30 p.m.
